If you're a learner driver or you're assisting one or more young drivers in learning to drive in Melbourne, you may be asking where the best location to learn to drive is. In our Yarra City Driving School guide, we'll look at a few great venues where learner drivers may improve their driving abilities and confidence in a safe, low-stress setting.

Begin at Melbourne's car parks.

An empty parking lot is by far the finest area for new drivers to practice their driving skills. You should generally stick to car parks during the first few days of learning to drive. You may learn how to brake, accelerate, steer, use turn signals, and other fundamentals that can be intimidating on a public road.

The minimum age varies by state and territory:

• Victoria (VIC) 16 years old → eligible for a learner permit and driving lessons.

• New South Wales (NSW)

  16 years old → eligible for a learner licence (L plates).

• Queensland (QLD) 16 years old → eligible for a learner licence.

• South Australia (SA) 16 years old → minimum age for a learner’s permit.
